Delayed Gratification & Success

Don't eat the marshmallow-yet.
Is there a connection between delayed gratification and future success? Watch this short talk by Joachim de Posada about an experiment on delayed gratification. Interesting and cute how the kids try so hard not to eat the marshmallow.

Glogster

I am excited to try out this 2.0 tool I just discovered called Glogster. Glogster is a way to create interactive posters using text, images, video, and music. Here is an example of a Glogster poster: Web 2.0 Glogster

Doesn't it spark a lot of ideas to use with your students?
Click here to go to the Glogster site: Glogster

Look around the site at all the Glogster creations.

There is also a Glogster Edu for educators. Glogster Edu
It looks like so much fun. I can't wait to make one of my own and try it out with my students.

Google Earth

I've been using Google Earth with my computer classes and we are having lots of fun with it! The students have been telling their brothers and sisters about it and they come to class wanting to explore Google Earth. Give it a try! I think it would be great to use with an Interactive White Board. Here are some resources to get you started:

More on Multi-Tasking

Watch this clip by Dr. John Medina, The Brain Cannot Multi-Task.
According to Medina, multi-tasking is a myth. His research suggests that multitaskers will take twice as long to accomplish certain tasks and they’ll have twice the error rate of single taskers.

The Myth of Multitasking

Are you a multi-tasker? I used to think I was effective at doing many things at once, and I was quite proud of it. Then I realized that I wasn't really accomplishing much. I started looking around and noticing that I wasn't the only proud multi-tasker. Here is an interesting article that discusses this myth and the research that supports the idea that the brain cannot handle multiple tasks at the same time.

Just Released: Did You Know 4.0

Did you know that the average American teenager texts about 2,272 text messages a month?  I'm glad I pay for unlimited text messaging at my house!
I'm sure most of you have seen Did You Know, or as it is sometimes referred to, Shift Happens.  This latest version was created by Economist Magazine for their conference in October.  Although it has more of a business emphasis, the statistics are fascinating.
